  • New members of all KWYO orchestras are admitted via auditions including returning members of Youth Orchestra (the advanced level)
  • KWYO in-person (live) auditions are an opportunity to meet our faculty and to learn what we offer
  • Please refer to the audition requirements to determine which KWYO orchestra best matches your instrumental skill level.
  • KWYO holds auditions in late spring (end of May/beginning of June) and again in early September, after the Labour Day weekend.
  • To register for an audition please follow the link to submit your 2026-27 KWYO Audition Application
  • The spring auditions for 2026-27 season are now concluded. Follow the September schedule to sign up for any of the four orchestras:
    • Preludium Strings (entry level ensemble)
      • September 12 (Sat) 9 - 9:30 am, WLU, Faculty of Music
    • Youth Strings (junior orchestra)
      • September 12 (Sat) 9:30 - 10:00 am, WLU, Faculty of Music
    • Youth Sinfonia (intermediate orchestra)
      • September 12 (Sat) 11:30 am - 12:00 pm, WLU, Faculty of Music
    • Youth Orchestra (advanced level symphony)
      • September 12 (Sat), WLU, Faculty of Music
        • Strings: 10:00 am - 11:30 am
        • Woodwinds, Brass & Percussion: 2:00 - 3:30 pm
  • NOTE:
    Please keep your selected time block available. Exact audition times will be assigned by KWYO staff. If you cannot attend the audition in person, please select the Video Audition option.

  • Your in-person audition will take between 8-10 minutes
  • Conductors and professional musicians from the community will evaluate the following areas of your performance: tone quality, secure intonation, accurate pitches, rhythm & tempo, dynamic range and the style of music played
  • KWYO is actively seeking young musicians playing viola, double bass, oboe, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone and tuba. Auditions on those instruments are available throughout the season
  • Audition results are communicated to candidates within 72 h following their audition day
  • Successful candidates are expected to complete their KWYO enrollment to secure their placement in an orchestra upon receiving the acceptance notification
